News Blog Category - News Our next PTO meeting will be at 2:45 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12. The meeting will last 30 to 45 minutes, and then we will be decorating the gym for the Christmas programs — just stay for as long as you can! Children are welcome!

We will not be holding a Colts Cash store in December because it is a short month of school days. Our next one will be on Friday, Jan. 13. Continue to encourage your children to earn colts cash by being respectful, responsible and safe!

We love our Kendall Giants!

News Blog Category - News Via Credit Union and Marion Community Schools operate a cooperative educational program, a Student Operated Branch. The mission of the cooperative is to help students learn about money and to establish money management skills.

The Student Operated Branch at Kendall Elementary is open every Wednesday morning before school and accepts deposits only. As an incentive to save, during December, students who make a deposit of at least $5 before winter break will get a Little Debbie snack cake!

If you would like for your child to start saving at the Kendall Student Branch, please complete a permission slip and return it along with their initial deposit. Permission slips will be sent home, but are also available in the school office.

Thank to Via Credit Union for this fabulous and continuous community partnership!

News Blog Category - News This weekend, singers from Marion elementaries and McCulloch Junior High will be spreading holiday cheer at a special event, Winter Magic in the Gardens of Matter Park.

Saturday, Dec. 3, will be a day full of fun at the Gardens!

Families and groups are invited to come help decorate trees at the Gardens. (Click here to register for your tree.) From noon to 4 p.m., participants can help make decorations from noon to 4 p.m. at the Garden House, and/or bring some of their own decorations for their tree. Decorations should be environmentally friendly and bird-friendly (think popcorn, acorns, berries, pinecones … ).

>> Then, at 6 p.m., a tree lighting ceremony is planned, and singers from Marion Community Schools will be caroling at that time.

After the tree lighting, you can explore the gardens and enjoy the decorated trees, as well as hot chocolate and a bonfire in the meadow area.

The public is invited to this free event. Come out and explore the Gardens and enjoy a performance by some of our talented young singers!

News Blog Category - News This holiday season, as carols tell of a special star that shone long ago, Marion High School’s state-of-the-art planetarium will put on a special show that explores the wonders of the night sky.

The public is invited to MHS for “Seasonal Stargazing: Winter and Season of Lights”. Showings will be as follows:
  • 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3
  • 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4
Admission is free, but seating is limited and on a first-come, first-seated basis on the day of the show. Doors will open about 30 minutes before each showing. Enter MHS through Door 22 at the front of the building. The show lasts about an hour.

Several of these shows precede or follow the Marion Community School of the Arts’ holiday ballet, The Nutcracker, which starts at 7 p.m. Dec. 3 and 2 p.m. Dec. 4 in the Walton Performing Arts Center at MHS. (Click here for Nutcracker ticket info.) This is a great opportunity for two special experiences with the family, right here in Marion!

The planetarium at MHS was renovated in fall 2012. It boasts state-of-the-art LED cove lighting; 5.1 surround sound system with JBL cinema series speakers that push 2400 watts of power; a Digitarium Kappa projector that broadcasts full dome shows; and seating for 58.

Marion Community Schools is pleased to be able to present this special show to the public and share our exceptional facilities with the community in this way.
