News Blog Category - News This holiday season, as carols tell of a special star that shone long ago, Marion High School’s state-of-the-art planetarium will put on a special show that explores the wonders of the night sky.

The public is invited to MHS for “Seasonal Stargazing: Winter and Season of Lights”. Showings will be as follows:
  • 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3
  • 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4
Admission is free, but seating is limited and on a first-come, first-seated basis on the day of the show. Doors will open about 30 minutes before each showing. Enter MHS through Door 22 at the front of the building. The show lasts about an hour.

Several of these shows precede or follow the Marion Community School of the Arts’ holiday ballet, The Nutcracker, which starts at 7 p.m. Dec. 3 and 2 p.m. Dec. 4 in the Walton Performing Arts Center at MHS. (Click here for Nutcracker ticket info.) This is a great opportunity for two special experiences with the family, right here in Marion!

The planetarium at MHS was renovated in fall 2012. It boasts state-of-the-art LED cove lighting; 5.1 surround sound system with JBL cinema series speakers that push 2400 watts of power; a Digitarium Kappa projector that broadcasts full dome shows; and seating for 58.

Marion Community Schools is pleased to be able to present this special show to the public and share our exceptional facilities with the community in this way.

News Blog Category - News UPDATE from the PTO: Unfortunately, we are a few volunteers short for the Santa Shop this year. Thank you to those who volunteered their time. We will try again next year!

FYI for our Kendall families. Information went home recently from our PTO regarding plans for the Kendall Santa Shop, and the need for volunteers.

The Santa Shop is a chance for students to come and shop for small items to give to their friends and family this holiday season. The PTO is exploring the idea of a 2016 Santa Shop, and is looking for people to cover 24 volunteer shifts in early December. Volunteers will be helping students pick out items, and handling money. More instructions and information will be provided to those who volunteer. If interest is there and help is available, the PTO will move forward with the plans!

>> Nov. 22 is the last day to turn in your information to volunteer and help make this fun opportunity available to our students! Click here to view the flier.

If you need more information, contact Michelle Boogar by text or call at 765-631-3736.

Thank you to our PTO, and to all of our families who work to provide special opportunities for our students!

Marion Community Schools and Little Giants Preschool are thrilled to have been chosen to be a part of documentary examining the importance of high-quality early learning opportunities for children.

The documentary, The Building Blocks of Our Future: A Look at Quality Early Education, features programs in Indianapolis and Marion. Little Giants Preschool Director Kerri Wortinger, along with teachers and teacher's aides, were interviewed for the film, and the crew also spent time in our classrooms on the first day of class this school year.

Take a look at a preview of the documentary here:

The full film aired on Nov. 17 on WFYI, the Indianapolis PBS station that produced the documentary. That airing was not available to Marion cable subscribers (though over-the-air and some dish customers did have the opportunity to watch.

>> WIPB, the Muncie PBS channel aired by Bright House, plans to air the documentary at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8.

In addition, Little Giants Preschool is planning a special event for donors who supported our funding drive for an early education matching grant from the state of Indiana last spring. We are planning a local premiere of the documentary at 6 p.m. Jan. 9 at the Globe Theater at Indiana Wesleyan University. Donors and their guests will have the opportunity to come and view the documentary, and meet some of the staff and families of Little Giants Preschool.

We are proud of our high-quality preschool, and we are proud to have been chosen to be a part of this documentary!
